What Is a Jones Tube DCR?
Jones tube DCR is a tear duct bypass surgery that places a small tube, often called a Lester Jones tube, to carry tears from the inner corner of the eye into the nasal cavity. This procedure is most often used when the canaliculi are scarred or blocked, so a standard tear duct operation is not enough. A surgeon creates a new passage from the conjunctival side and positions the tube through the opening. Tears drain through the tube rather than through the usual drainage path. Follow-up visits matter because mucus or crusting can clog the tube and the tube can shift or come out.
