What Is a Jerk Pursuit Deficit?
A jerk pursuit deficit is a smooth pursuit eye movement disorder in which the eyes cannot track moving targets smoothly and instead show step-like, jerky corrections. The system responsible for matching eye speed to target speed is impaired. Patients may see moving objects as jumpy or hard to follow. This pattern often points to cerebellar or cortical dysfunction. Careful testing helps map which pursuit directions are most affected.
