What Is a Vasoconstrictive Agent?
A vasoconstrictive agent is a medicine or substance that narrows blood vessels by contracting vascular smooth muscle. These agents are also called vasoconstrictors, and some are classified as vasopressors when used to raise blood pressure. Examples include norepinephrine, phenylephrine, epinephrine, vasopressin, and selected topical decongestants. Their effects depend on the receptors activated, dose, route, tissue, and patient condition.
