Can Eye Color Change Naturally in Adults?
For the vast majority of the human population, eye color is genetically fixed by age 3 to 6. However, long-term studies indicate that spontaneous eye color change in adulthood is possible, though rare. Research following adult twins found that approximately 10% to 15% of the Caucasian population experienced a subtle lightening or darkening of their irises as they aged through adolescence and early adulthood. In true adulthood (after age 25), a noticeable change in color is statistically unlikely to be "natural" and is usually a sign of an underlying medical condition or external chemical factor.
