The 20 Best Selling Contact Lenses of 2021 By Sales (Bonus: The Most Popular Brands)

Google's Smart Contact Lenses could revolutionize contact lenses.

If you’ve been wearing contact lenses for a long time, chances are you already have a favorite. But if you’re considering a change we have the all-in-one guide on the best lenses of 2021, based on Lens.com’s official sales data for North America.

Specific contact lens product recommendations are based on personal situations and performed by your eye doctor.

2021 Updates to Our ‘Best Selling List’

This is the 2nd year we’ve polled our sales data to arrive at this rank-ordered list. In June 2021, we expanded the list to the 20 top-selling contacts, overall, on Lens.com. We’ve included the 2020 list below the 2021 table. There was only one change within the top 10 but it was an interesting one. ACUVUE OASYS for Astigmatism moved up a slot to #2 overall on Lens.com, for best-selling contacts overall. The fact a specialized contact lens is so popular may come as a surprise to some. It’s estimated however that up to 30% of the US population has some degree and type of astigmatism, and that 70% of all Rx’s written in the country include astigmatism correction.

Can There Really Be a “Best Contact Lens”?

No, it’s misleading to claim there can be a best lens for everyone, as some lists claim. Be aware too that some sites use affiliate links that earn a commission as you click through to a product and make a purchase (there’s nothing wrong with this but something to be aware of, as it can make trusting recommendations difficult). We don’t use such links on Eyestyle. There are hard metrics that allow you to compare one lens to another, for example, water content or material type, but not every person will or can appreciate the qualities of various contacts the same way. Some individuals are used to hydrogel lenses, while others prefer the added breathability of silicone hydrogel lenses. Some prefer thinner lenses, others do not. As it’s a highly individualized recommendation that your ECP makes, the best we can do is expand your awareness a little of what other contacts and brands are out there in the hopes it may spark conversations with your ECP when they come up (not just various contacts but also various contact types are on this list, including daily lenses, 2-week lenses, and monthly lenses which you may not be aware of). Neither is this list exhaustive, as Lens.com offers over 200 contact lenses, each FDA-approved, from major manufacturers and each have their loyal following of wearers.

Most popular contact lens brands

Rank Summary: The Top Contact Brands of 2020
1. Acuvue
2. DAILIES
3. Biofinity
4. Air Optix
5. Biotrue ONEday

Thinking about wearing contact lenses for the first time? Or interested in trying out a different brand? Whatever the case, it’s important that you keep yourself informed on the most popular contact lens brands. Each brand will typically offer multiple types of contacts, including for astigmatism, daily disposable, colored lenses, and others. You and your eye care professional can decide together which brand is best for you.

With dozens of brands available, keeping up can be daunting. Lens.com can make the process a lot easier. We carry all major lens brands, but here are 5 of our most popular brands in 2019.

  1. ACUVUE®

Manufactured by Johnson and Johnson, the ACUVUE brand has been providing high-quality contact lenses and exceptional eye care to patients all over the world for more than 20 years. They have daily, bi-weekly, and monthly lenses to fit patients’ varying replacement requirements.

  1. DAILIES®

DAILIES is a brand manufactured by Alcon. From the brand name itself, DAILIES specializes in offering patients daily disposable contact lenses that patients can wear from morning till night without a drop in comfort level. DAILIES® has contact lenses for all kinds of vision problems including presbyopia and astigmatism.

  1. Biofinity®

Biofinity® contact lenses allow the eyes to breathe and retain moisture for long-lasting comfort.

  1. AIR OPTIX®

Like DAILIES, AIR OPTIX is manufactured by Alcon. Unlike DAILIES, though, AIR OPTIX offers patients a more diverse range of contact lenses. This brand has daily lenses, monthly lenses, and even colored lenses. AIR OPTIX contact lenses are equipped with technology that allows for maximum breathability and long-lasting comfort.

  1. Biotrue® ONEday

Remember, there is no such thing as a single best lens brand. Choosing the right pair of contacts depends on a variety of factors, from the shape of your eyes to your lifestyle to your specific vision problems.

Consult your doctor and inform them of any problems that you’re experiencing with your eyes. They can help you in deciding which brand and contact lens type is the best option for you. It might take switching between a few brands and lenses to find the right pair. That being said, most people are able to keep wearing just one brand and type of contact lenses with no issue at all.
