How recent does my prescription have to be?

That depends on your doctor and the state that you live in. Some doctors require you to return for eye exams as frequently as allowed by state law (usually one year). In other states, such as Florida and Washington, state law requires the doctor to write the prescription to be valid for two years unless there are valid medical reasons that require you to return more often.
